2023 marked a significant step forward for electromobility, laying the foundation for the growth of sustainable transportation.
Electrical buses in the capital
Warsaw, the capital of Poland, sets standards for other Polish cities for the usage of electricity to fuel public transport. With 162 electric buses driving the citizens around the city’s streets, Warsaw is headed for a green future with its solutions to environmental challenges.
Growth of electric bus fleet at the national level
According to Polish Alternative Fuels Association (PSPA), there are currently 865 electrical buses in use all over Poland, which contributes towards the goal of sustainable transport. We are delighted with European Commission’s proposition to only introduce zero-emission buses starting 2030. It is a step towards limiting carbon dioxide emission by 40% before 2040. Poland, which is one of the leading exporters of electrical buses, stands a chance to herald this revolution.
Not only Warsaw
Other Polish cities, such as Kraków, Poznań, Zielona Góra, and Jaworzno, are also contributing to accelerate this transformation towards green public transport by introducing an ever-growing number of new electrical buses. Wrocław, with its bus route K being solely operated by zero-emission vehicles, is another shining example of a city which actively contributes to limiting carbon dioxide emission.
Local governments’ investments for electromobility
Local governments of both towns and cities have made effort by continuing to invest in electric means of public transport. Towns, such as Lidzbark Warmiński, Bielsk Podlaski, and Kętrzyn, combine their investments with free-of-charge public transport for citizens, hopefully serving as an inspiration for nearby regions which are yet to make the switch.
Global events
Last year a significant activity could be observed both by European and American investors who took interest in the area of charging electrical heavy goods vehicles. Key investors were Daimler Truck and Volvo, who contributed substantial funds towards developing the necessary infrastructure, further committing to clean transport promotion.
Conclusions and future outlooks
The year 2023 was undoubtedly a period of rapid development in electromobility. Initiatives undertaken by local governments, the development of charging infrastructure, and the growth of the electric bus fleet all are steps toward a clean and sustainable future. Poland has an opportunity to lead the European electromobility revolution.
